New Melones Kokanee 5-31-2019

Returning clients Robert, Dave and Tom were back on board with me on May the 31st at New Melones. We loaded all their gear and we headed out, the bite was good, but most of these fish were biting very light so we missed the first five, then all of a sudden the shallow rod was thumped hard off the clip so Tom grabbed the rod and after a few seconds we could tell that this fish was not a kokanee as it was peeling line  then it appeared 30 feet out and WOW, I shouted its a brown trout and then it made several good runs and and the Phenix kokanee rod did an amazing job, I was finally able to slide the big fish into the net, we quickly took a few photos and released the six pound brown back into the waters of New Melones. We finished the day with twelve kokanee and I do know that they lost at least that many. A great day again with these three guys!!!!
